Brexit 81k Euleprinceringuetzdnet: Receive a notification about Brexit 81,000 domains suspended and 3 months given for transfer

The European Union (EU) has just introduced legislation to suspend the .eu domain from any individual who does not have “proof of EU nationality” by 20 May 2019. The law will apply to more than 81,000 .eu domains registered by UK citizens that have not yet been transferred or demonstrated proof of EU nationality within three months. Here is how you can avoid losing your valuable website or email address forever when Brexit’s deadline is near.

The new law is applicable to any individual who does not have “proof of EU nationality” by 20 May 2019. The suspension will apply to more than 81,000 .eu domains registered by UK citizens that have not yet been transferred or demonstrated proof of EU nationality within three months.

There are three ways you can avoid losing your .eu domain when Brexit takes effect:

• Transfer the website or email address before Brexit deadline: You need to transfer your .eu domain before the specified date. If you don’t, you’ll risk losing it forever.

• Get Eu citizenship before 20 May 2019: if you require a .eu domain for your website or email address, but do not have proof of EU nationality, you should apply for EU citizenship as soon as possible.

• Demonstrate Eu nationality: If you already hold an Eu-nationality and want to transfer the domain to another person (e.g. your child or child-in-law), you will not have to demonstrate EU nationality by 20 May 2019.

The deadline for transfer applications is fast approaching. On 15 October 2018 , the UK government said that the date for Brexit to take effect would be the 29 March 2019 at 11:00 pm (British Summer Time). To give you time to carry out necessary actions, we are notifying domain owners that the deadline for transferring their .eu domains is 16 November 2018 (6 days before Brexit). After this date, you will have one month to transfer/demonstrate your EU nationality or face domain suspension.

Mind that you can only show proof of EU citizenship by submitting a valid ID document issued by an EU member state. If a person has more than one identity, s/he should submit all required documents for each of them. Certain identity documents must be dated within the last three months to be accepted as proof of citizenship. Please contact our no-obligation Brexit Helpdesk for any clarification on this subject:

More than 80 thousand .eu domains registered by UK citizens will be put at risk if their owners do not transfer or demonstrate EU nationality within three months after Brexit takes effect (20 May 2019). Our goal is to ensure that no one becomes an IDN victim and have their valuable .eu domains suspended.
